This necklace is a traditional Tulsi Kanthi Mala combined with a Rudraksha bead. The white, tubular beads appear to be made from the wood of the sacred Tulsi (Holy Basil) plant, which is highly revered in Hinduism. The single, larger, brown textured bead is a Rudraksha seed, considered a divine tear of Lord Shiva.
Identification and Cultural Significance
- Tulsi Beads: These beads, made from the wood of the holy basil plant, are traditionally worn by Vaishnavas (followers of Vishnu/Krishna) as a symbol of devotion, purity, and spiritual protection. Wearing a Tulsi mala is believed to balance energy, bring inner peace, and ward off negative influences.
- Rudraksha Bead: The rudraksha seed is sacred to Shaivas (followers of Shiva) and is associated with good health, mental clarity, and the removal of obstacles.
- Combination: The combination of Tulsi and Rudraksha in a single mala brings together different spiritual energies, symbolizing the unity of different divine aspects. This type of prayer bead necklace is widely used for Japa meditation, which involves the repetitive chanting of mantras to focus the mind and count repetitions.
